SUNDAY CONVERSATION: Covenant Sunday
Like many places that have physical edifices, we’ve recently spent some time cleaning-up from the winter and preparing for the summer months ahead. The parking lot has been cleared of the weeds that grow between the asphalt cracks. Some landscaping has been done with new mulch and plants. And we’ve put new coats of paint on some of our interior doors and walls. These things are all nice, we believe, but doing them does not and cannot make us a church that is pleasing in the sight of God. Both the Old and New Testaments speak of giving inordinate attention to our exteriors and ignoring the quality of our interiors. Covenant Sunday is intended to kick-off a yearlong focus on the interior of our lives. The context is the conditional covenant God made with Abraham which we believe is still in effect today. Consider it a house-cleaning, if you wish.
